Subject: Charles Messier & the Messier Marathon
Speaker: Don Machholz
Abstract: Join Don Machholz for an evening presentation about eighteenth-century astronomer Charles Messier, who is famous for compiling The Messier Catalogue, an extensive list of galaxies, star clusters, and nebula. All 110 of the objects documented in the catalogue can be observed in one night. This "Messier Marathon", which Machholz helped to design and promote, will be described in the presentation.
Speaker Bio: Don Machholtz is the author of two books on the Messier Marathon, one published by Cambridge University Press. Additionally Don discovered Comet C/2004 Q2 in August of 2004 from his back deck. You can read more about his account here: http://ephemeris.sjaa.net/0410/b.html
